Before we start on any project big or small, we dive into planning each of the 7 (yes seven!) design elements. Color is one of the design elements that set the stage for projects. Every color has its own story and mood on its own. Combining multiple colors together we are able to visually tell a more complex story and begin to bring projects to life!
My friend, fellow milspouse, and talented party planner, Shakira, approached me about creating an invitation and custom watercolor food cards for her space event. She wanted to plan an “out of this world” space event. I absolutely love that while she planned this occasion for one of her little girls, she didn’t want to go into the pink and purple galaxy outer space. We kept the inspiration from what you think back to science class space colors: navy blues, orange, and teals. Then we brought in a modern twist by bringing the orange a bit towards the Pantone Color of the Year- Living Coral. To round this all out we used a dusky purple as a neutral.
The Color Palette
How can you use these colors?
Many creative programs (Adobe Suite, Procreate, etc) have a color picker or color grab tool. Download the image above and use the tool to snag these exact colors in your own project.
Alternatively, the hex codes for each of these colors are listed below so you can quickly copy and paste.
Project Using These Colors
Occasions by Shakira pulled together this amazing event for an out-of-this-world celebration!
The Invite Details
We created a custom invitation to build excitement for this event. The black envelope features silver and white calligraphy and opens up flat.
On the inside, it reveals a starry sky that the spaceship invitation sits in. As if that wasn’t enough, just look at those details using a GIRL astronaut and clever wording.
Day of Space Details
For the day of details, we used aqua, blues and orange as a base and painted black watercolor over the letters. These blended together to give the perfect galaxy feel to the punny food cards!
